My main areas of interest are Gender and Religion, Sexuality and Religion, American Religion and New Religious Movements in America (particularly Christian and Christian-based), as well as Material Culture of Religion. Recently I've been fascinated both by so-called "egalitarian" religious movements, like the Shakers, as well as the gendered/sexed implications of the soul's union with Christ after death.

Current and future projects include a paper in progress on the conflict between Mormons and Evangelicals during the 2008 election (and subsequent collaboration during the prop 8 campaign), as well as future projects looking at roadside shrines, the rise of anti-cult literature associated with the FLDS, as well as possibly profiling a particular Christian NRM in Orange County and the Inland Empire.
